Successful Grooming for Elderly dogs
Finding the right groomer for your dog is important and especially when they are elderly dogs. Not only are you looking for someone who can manage your bundle of love with the same TLC you give it but you need to find an experienced one that will give you exactly what you are looking for.
Even when they are young puppies, a new Goldendoodle or any Doodle owner will not fully understand how dog grooming works. It can be very intimidating and they will eventually understand that their puppy needs to become comfortable in this grooming environment.
Sometimes playing with a puppy or any dog that may have anxieties before the session can help relieve some of the stress that comes with standing up for a bath, blow and trim. Its not an easy task to get through and the groomer you pick needs to be experienced and not forcing your dog to do something it is 100% having an awful time accepting.
When selecting a grooming service for your senior dog, prioritize the following factors:
Experience with Senior Dogs
It is important that you chose a groomer who specializes in handling older pets. I groomed my first elderly dog in 2007 and have been grooming them ever since. I have a dedicated, grooming studio and I am familiar with their unique needs and challenges. I also help dogs with special needs, puppies that need time, patience and proper exposure to being groomed.
Gentle handling and patience
I am the owner of Good Dog K9 Training and Services®, LLC and insist on using gentle techniques, allow for breaks and accommodating any mobility issues. Prior to booking your dog for its bath, you would be able to communicate any sensitivities your dog might have to me and precautions will be taken such as a recent operation that may have been done on your dog.
Comfortable environment
Not only is it calm and peaceful, classical music is played which reduces stress in your dog. The equipment that is used in the grooming studio is state of the art and so comfortable to stand, sit or lay down on. There is enough space for larger dogs of which many are groomed.
Health and Safety Measures
One of the most important safety and health measures that I constantly look over and observe any skin conditions or arthritis and to ensure that the owners are aware of these things and takes the appropriate measures to help your dog. If needed, this may mean having something checked out by your local Veterinarian.
Customized grooming plans
The grooming sessions are tailored to you and your dog’s needs. It is important that your dog is comfortable and above all safe. For puppies and dogs that are new to being groomed, I may even play with your puppy or dog to help get it ready and a little energy burnt before we begin - it just depends on the dog. Breaks are taken on and off for dogs who are still getting through any anxiety they may have. I don’t rush things.
