FAQs

My dog barks and reacts too energetically, can I still come to the Group Obedience Classes?

You sure can! One of the very first topics we address in the initial class is the important subject of self-control. We begin the lessons by teaching both the owners and their dogs how to perform “impulse control drills.” These drills are incorporated right at the start of each class to help all the dogs regain and maintain their focus on their owners, which is essential for effective training to take place. If you have any concerns or reservations about joining, we offer a free meet and greet to ensure that the class format is the best fit for you and your dog. While there are some occasions where private lessons may be a better choice, most of the time simply attending the group classes is exactly what your pup needs to develop better manners and calm behavior.

Do I attend all of the obedience classes or just one per week?

You would attend all classes provided over the course of 12 sessions, with the last two combined into a special event where we conduct training followed immediately by a celebration featuring games, prizes, gift bags, and certificates. Unlike other training companies that offer a full hour per lesson, Adelita discovered that longer sessions tend to become unproductive about halfway through, as both dogs and owners often become tired or lose interest. Therefore, each lesson has been thoughtfully divided into two half-hour segments, making the training more effective and enjoyable for everyone involved—owners, puppies, adolescent dogs, and adult dogs alike.

Are the basic Group Obedience Classes for puppies and adult dogs?

Yes, the basic obedience classes are designed for puppies and dogs of all ages, provided they are healthy and have all their vaccinations up to date. Dogs require daily training throughout their lives because they do not learn in the same way humans do. Their brains need regular reminders and repetition through drills to help them retain the important behaviors they should follow, as well as those they should avoid. This class can be repeated as many times as necessary by your dog, and it is equally important that you continue practicing the training at home. Participating in a group setting allows your dog to build confidence while becoming desensitized to various distractions, such as other dogs, people, and different scents. Additionally, this structured environment offers a level of consistency and routine that is often difficult to maintain at home alone.

What kind of things do you train in a private, in-home dog training lesson?

Private lessons can be conducted either at your home or at a local park, depending on what best suits your dog’s individual needs and comfort. We cover a variety of essential areas in dog training to help your pet become well-mannered and happy. These areas include Puppy Training, Crate Training, Clicker Training, Potty Training, Impulse Control Drills, and Obedience commands such as Place, Focus, and Target. We also work on common behavioral issues like Mouthing, Jumping, and reliable recall with Come When Called, as well as Stay, Leave It/Drop It, and proper Leash Walking techniques. Each private lesson is tailored to your specific requirements, and you will be asked to create a personalized Goals List to ensure that all your priorities and training objectives are clearly identified and addressed.
